I had such a wonderful day :D
Okay, maybe the morning wasn't so wonderful. I had to drag myself out of bed, dress, gulp down a mouthful of yoghurt drink and get myself to NUS. Only to be made to feel self-conscious cause I was one of the few not in uniform and made fun of my a surprisingly 'unnice' mr teo. not to forget being bored to death of course. my moderator is the worst of all! why didn't i get some nice quirky funny fellow?! grrr
oh well, that was my 'interesting' morning. that was followed by a nice lunch with papa at this spanish restaurant at clarke quay :D
After that was Acsian theatre West Side Story. I must say it was good. Ah, it had to be, considering it was a school production and they spent $30 000 and are charging people at least $32! I was pretty impressed with the production. Deanna was stunning! The vocals were good and acting was quite top notch.
But the highlight of the evening was really the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory (aka yong tau fu) orchestra concert.
Before that, I brought Tony on a nice walking tour of the marina area. We walked from SRT to clarke quay (where we discovered plenty of fantastic places), from clarke quay to the merlion and from there to esplanade :D
There, I saw Mrs Soh and all the VJ A level music class people. Debbie n Fgg were there for phantom too!
The concert was one that brought both tears and laughter.
The Tschaikovsky variation was really really enjoyable. Qin Li Wei was really cute. The piece was kinda like suitable for some kinda courtship. And the way he played, it was like:
-Looked at conductor (Wang Ya Hui) while playing, "i love you darling..."
-Play some cheeky/playful sounding lines, looked at Ye Lin (concert mistress, fantastic violinist!) while playing, "hey girl, how are ya? i'm good eh ;)" *winks winks*
-Looks back at conductor, gives funny expressions, then stares at her, "yes darling? you have a problem with me looking at young girls? i love you, you're still charming..."
this then continues for some time. twas really hilarious and entertaining. I guess this is one of the main differences between listening to a piece thats recorded on a CD and seeing it performed live.
Prof Qin then did 3 encores! all lovely.
The last piece was Prokofiev's Romeo & Juliet. Another super entetaining piece.
Oh, and I forgot to mention that the conductor is beautiful to watch. Her conducting is so elegant yet concise. Its lovely to watch her conduct. She exudes the aura of a power woman, yet a woman with alot of nu ren wei.
The encore the conservatory orchestra did was lovely too! someone had better tell me the name of the piece soon. its too familiar...grr :p
The best thing was, as we were walking out of the concert hall, I was this familiar face. I nudged jiayi and kinhang to point out the face. All our jaws dropped and we stared like retards. Rear Admiral Teo Chee Hean saw us and started a conversation with us. I quickly remembered to shut my mouth and hopefully I appeared intelligent. Lol.
After the concert I attempted to look to Ye Lin to take a picture with her. That girl is gonna make it big man! But no, we couldn't wait for her...she was no where in sight. sigh, i hope she'll like do one more performance or something. She's graduating! I won't get another chance! I'll never forget the day I fell in love with her/her playing man. In 2004 in UCC when she played a Piaganini concerto. She plays exquisitely!
Sigh...hopefully I'll get my picture one day...
you know you love me
