Ah, I've finally gotten down to writing. Hopefully, I'll have enough steam to last me to write everything I want to say.
Let me start by talking about Friday's assembly. Obviously it was going to be a full day off (it'd better be! for reasons afore mentioned). So why didn't I pon school?
One of the main reasons was because I wanted to see what was going to be said about the soccer 3rd/4th match of the day before. Another was because I wanted to hear what kind of prologue we'd have to the announcement of the full day off.
What was said for soccer made it quite worth going to school already la.
How often do you see TYH looking kinda abashed and thanking supporters for going down to support the match, saying the supporters made a difference and telling the whole school how he fell and we cheered for him while the saints laughed?
After that, while he was telling us about the matches to be played that day, it was really 'cute' the way he asked "Mr Chan, full day ahr?".
Anyway, it was a full day. This is preceeded by a promised 3-5 minutes (but ending up to be 15minutes) talk. He had 2 main points. I can't remember what his points were, all i remember was that he had 2 points which he talked at length about. Haha. And almost everyone zhaoed mass dance after that.
This brings me to remember how everyone (almost that is) came to school the day after soccer finals last year. We all knew we were going to get a full day off, but people came anyway. We came to hear the results announced, we came to hear Mrs Chan congratulate them and tell us to go out and show the world that we were the champions. We came because we were proud victorians. After the day off was announced, we stayed back for the mass dance.
That was a stark contrast to the situation this year.
I can just pray that things will improve as the years go on.
The basketball match was electrifying! It didn't begin on a very high note, but people started trickling in and we started cheering more.
[sigh, i'm losing steam already]
suffice to say that im super irritated with the redshirts who have no idea how to keep the mood up for a match. they have no sense of the correct time to cheer, no idea how long to sustain a cheer and no idea what to cheer!
and they're so obsessed with the control over the crowd that they neglect their real duty.
Anyway, we won the A div girls basketball championship and denied bishan jc their 10th final! That was a fantastic feeling man! (almost matching last year's soccer finals)
TYH doesn't seem to have gotten over our 'could have been' goal for soccer guys. Could kinda tell from the way he had that look of 'longing' in his eyes and how he shook one of his guys and asked "you saw how hard they fought or not?!".
Fight hard our girls did! It was a beautiful match to watch!
We lost soccer girls finals...SA won by 1 goal due to a stupid mistake on our part. That was really a waste. Another stickling thing is again the stupid redshirts and their while power complex. You should have seen the exchange between them and the soccer guys about starting cheers. Helloo, when people start cheering, you don't ask them to stop just so that you can lead. You especially don't ask people who know better what it feels like to be the one on the field to stop cheering!
Ee, i still have alot to say, but I'm getting bored and I wanna zzz...
so I shall just post some pics and go zzz....

Everybody was expecting a half-day today.
Everybody was expecting the soccer guys or TYH to go up to tell the school that they're gonna fight it out in the soccer 3rd/4th game today and to go support them.
But none of the above happened.
Instead, the only person who could announce a half day was no where to be seen and TYH apparently said that our soccer guys didn't deserve supporters. (the match wasn't even announced!)
I actually got 2 accounts of the latter incident.
1) he didn't want the red shirts to go down cause he wanted the boys to enjoy their last match without any pressure/stress from the school.
2) he didn't feel that the boys deserved supporters because they're not in the finals.
I think both are actually believable, though I put up the 2nd cause it sounded juicier ;)
So anyway, for those who knew about the match, we made our own way down to the national stadium. (imagine that! the last soccer match thats going to be played at the national stadium!)
When our boys came on, we cheered. TYH spun around, a stunned look on his face. He surveyed the group of people that turned up, and a smile slowly spread across his face.
*beep* the whistle sounded, and the boys were off!
GO VJ GO VJ GO!
LETS GO VJ LETS GO!
VJ ALL THE WAY!
V*VJ**VJC***
VJ VJ Ceeeee
We threw out all the random spontaneous cheers we could think of, started and sustained cheers and screamed for our boys till we were hoarse. (my throat still hurts like mad!)
We cheered and we cheered and we SCORED! WOoHOO!
Because there were so little of us, and so many of SA, we couldn't overpower them. So we always waited till they were done with their cheers before we started ours. We filled in all the silent moments. SA didn't really cheer that much, so our voices were at work most of the time.
SA scored from a free kick.
And then VJ scored again! The score was 2-1!!! And 2-1 it was to remain until the final whilstle sounded.
Since TYH didn't let the red shirts lead us, these 2 J3 red shirts who came for the match led instead. The look on TYH's face when he saw them leading was another sight to behold! The girl, Charlene, was really powerful! She screamed and she screamed so loudly and 2 hours later, she could still scream and scream just as loudly! Really kudos to them!
And great job guys!
We're really proud of you! Not making the finals was simply bad luck! You're still our champions!
For the finals (RJ vs MJ), we couldn't find seats at the MJ side, so we had to sit in the RJ side.
I was all prepared to support MJ. I seriously didn't want RJ to win, not after they took our place in the finals and not after they've been winning everything.
But as the match wore on, it became pretty obvious that RJ was playing the better game.
They were organised and poised while MJ were reckless and impulsive.
MJ used their old trick. Whenever in need of extra time, get your players to start drowning in the field. i.e. collapse one by one (the more the merrier) and start rolling around on the ground.
Rj were the thinkers while Mj were the animals.
Mj simply whacked (ball and players alike) like nobody's business.
Rj on the other hand took careful aims and passed and shot their balls nicely.
(was it really such an exiciting match?)
Their skills weren't what helped them win. They defended ferociously, but there were plenty of moments when I witnessed their players going around in circles looking for the ball they'd lost. Rj won (sadly) simply because they were more refined.
The guys looked so sad during the prize presentation! Oh well, its over. Cheer up boys! We're proud of you!

Wah, I'm getting quite fed up with the 'arguement' going on on cosiety about days off.
From a little whining on the part on some people on the sparse day offs we're getting this year, it has blown into a stage for insults and accusations.
I'm so sick of it that I've decided to just air my golden opinions on my own blog :p
I think one of the reasons why we're so wound up over this issue is probably because we somehow subconsciously very strongly realise that there's some kind of double standard. The last day off was a half-day Thursday for our achievements in X-country and Wushu. This was given promptly after the results were announced.
But for our performing arts, whose achievements I cannot emphasize more, the day off is being delayed till most probably this Friday.
This week is a week dominated by sports. We have a couple of finals and a couple of 3rd/4th play offs. Should the off day be given this week, it would seem more like in celebration and recognition of sports more than performing arts.
Sure, he might make it clear that the day off is for the performing arts as well as sports. But in that case, we ask: Why did x-country and wushu garner a half-day off?
If we go by that calculation, success by 2 CCAs gives us half a day off.
This would in its way ENTITLE us to a full day off for the successes of our performing arts.
And perhaps another day off for the sports this week.
This, in my opinion, is what rouses us and not the fact (or unfact) that we're spoilt brats who are harping on a lost past.
Some also say that we don't deserve to be calling for days off for our sports as we've done miserably and should be ashamed of our results. Again, I'll say that the issue up for contention is our day off for the performing arts.
I personally feel that victorians are getting a little overboard in calling for days off, and that in light of recent events, i.e. the sports that haven't exactly been doing very well, we shouldn't be in the mood to go out to celebrate. The purposes of past days off were for us to flaunt our achievements to the school. We don't have much to flaunt this year. However, I also feel that it is wrong to say that we should tuck our heads between our legs and hide ourselves in school. It is wrong to say that because we haven't done well, we don't deserve a day off.
The point is again, the attitude of victorians towards days off; whether they get the meaning or not.
Okay, now for my next topic.
WHATDRAMA (drama night @ cchms) is this Friday. I'm directing the first play. It's called "In the Bakery" and is adapted from "In the Repair Shop" by Stella Kon.
We've worked hard these past week and personally I feel that what we've achieved is very good for a week's work. However, we're giving a performance here. And if we're going to do it, we want to do it right. i.e. Give a performance worthy of Gold. Currently, I'd say that we might be bronze bordering on silver standard. Not that my stellar cast ain't good, but that they could be much better. So far all the feedback I've gotten have been very positive. But that is coming from people who are used to watching (forgive me) lousy plays. Its not enough that we produce a better play, I hope to produce a fantastic play. This might be alot to ask (esp since we're working with a time frame of 2 weeks), but I'm working with a fantastic cast and getting alot of help from everywhere. I think we just might be able to pull it off ;) Fingers crossed!

ps: If anyone is interested to come watch, do let me know, its only $5 ;)

PHANTOM OF THE OPERA....
the set was AMAZING!
the costumes were DAZZLING!
the music was AWE-INSPIRING!
the cast was SUPERB!
it was INDESCRIBABLE...
there are only so many synonyms I can find.
We gave them a standing ovation. That, coming from a Singaporean crowd says something for itself.
i'm still speechless...

Victorians spoiled? [whatever happened to 'spoilt'?]
Did Mrs Chan spoil us with all the half/full days?
Perhaps, perhaps not.
People have been lamenting the lack of a full day off for our achievements in this year's syf. 4
gold with
honours, 3
golds. Nothing below a gold. What more can a school expect? Why didn't we get a day off to celebrate? A day off on the last day of school just isn't the same. It has to be a timely day off.
Reasonable enough? I daresay.
Why didn't we get a day off for our aesthetic achievements? What on earth do we work so hard for if it isn't for a day off? Oh no! We lost soccer! We didn't get into finals, how terrible! Why is it so terrible? Because I don't get my day off! boohoo!
Now thats something to frown upon.
I'm sure the choir, dance, band, strings, co, guitar and harmoc would have slogged just as hard even if vj didn't have a history of rewarding achievements with letting students off classes. Our sports teams would have trained just as vigorously. Everyone wants to win. Its about pride, glory, the sense of achievement.
For the rest of the school, its about the pride for your school. Its about being glad that you're a victorian, proud of the achievements of all the other victorians, proud that your school has done well. No one wants to lose. You wouldn' t want your school to come back with all COPs and get kicked out in all the preliminary rounds!
Off day isn't the equivalent of a dangling carrot. Its the fudge and cherry atop a sundae.
It isn't a nice soft bed after a long day. Its a nice soft bed with luxurious covers in a nicely lit warm room.
It brightens up your day, but you won't die without it.
Days off for achievements are rewards, time for the school to feel good and celebrate. To acknowledge the hard work of the students.
It is NOT to entice students to work hard.
Its sad how few victorians understand this.
We weren't spoilt. We were handsomly rewarded for our efforts. We were taught to take pride in victories that our comrades have achieved for us.
Now, we are simply incensed because someone doesn't understand the concept of giving us time to go out to proclaim our victories.

http://sevenwtfsaweek.blogspot.com/2007/05/fight-on-vj-fight-on.html my favourite of all i've read.
read some other blogs too. man, I don't believe the thing thats on so many people's minds is our lost day off!
In case some people are lost, I'm talking about today's vj-rj soccer semi-finals; in which vj lost on penalties 6-7.
It was such a replica of WorldCup06 Germany-Italy match!
It was a lost that shouldn't have been.
What if Mr Tan Yew Hwee had been there? (apparently he had food poisoning)
I'm pretty sure the team would have 'woken up their idea'. Appropriate directions would have been bellowed at the team and timely substitutions would have been made.
Although our team this year isn't as strong as last year's, we're still good. We shouldn't have lost. The boys needed their coach. Their real coach, no the good looking fellow who coaches the girls or the blonde who only knows how to grab his head whenever we miss a goal.
Also, I have a problem with our captain. Where on earth was he on the field? Why wasn't he directing and motivating his team? Instead of the fellow doning the green arm band, it was our dear J1 Thai that did the work of the captain. And it was our goalie who gave the post match speech.
There are 3 cases of handball that were somehow overlooked by the kayu referee.
A rafflesian grabbed the shirt of one of our guys, in a few instances they were offside, they were rolling and faking all over the field. All of these were also somehow overlooked.
During the penalty shootout, some idiots had to start shouting "RJ beat VJ 3-0", also, another bunch of idiots had to start making noise, causing our player to loose focus.
My last issue is with the principal. For that, refer to the website in the first line.
It was so heartwrenching to see the boys cry.
They were beat and beaten.
But guess what guys? We still love you!
We'll support you all the way!
We're really proud of you!!!!
you know you love me
ps: seriously, someone please go and kidnap mrs chan back to vj!
@9:32 pm
The crowds that came...
The tears we shed...
我那泪汪汪的眼睛
The scratches we braved...
This is all a dream...
We'll all wake up tomorrow from this mass nightmare. We all knew this could never have happened. We'll find out when we wake that it was all just a wake up call. To wake up our idea.
The pitch wasn't a piece of junk.
TYH wasn't absent, MT wasn't in charge.
That goal didn't actually go in.
We didn't go into extra time.
Our boys weren't dead tired.
The correct decisions were made.
Constructive commands were bellowed out.
R didn't fall and he wasn't subbed.
That shot didn't go over the bar.
TC didn't save that other shot.
That idiot didn't fall on our guy.
The referee wasn't so kayu and spotted the 3 handballs.
Those asses didn't shout "we beat u 3-0".
We didn't start most of the cheers.
The people in front didn't end the cheers almost as soon as we started them.
This couldn't have happened.
They didn't cry their hearts out.
We didn't cry our hearts out.
We are going to win.
you know you love me
we love you guys!

Dark clouds looming, but light still manages to find a way to shine throught to light up the world.

Whee!
A horrible day made right from evening onwards :D
Why horrible day?
There wasn't any day off to celebrate our aesthetic achievements.
There was a horrible chem test to study for.
My pencil box got drenched in orange juice.
Lessons were annoying.
Until soccer!
VJC beat CJC 4-nil!!!
How cool can it get?
The ironic thing was, we haven't exactly been playing fantastically well this year. (though we didn't loose a single match) But today was our best game, and guess what? We played our 2nd team ;) Well done guys!
All goals were scored in the 2nd half.
1st: open goal. plenty of people jostling, ball went in.
2nd: managed to hop past goalie and get it in
3rd: far off wonderful shot.
4rd: corner
haha, at least thats how I think it went...
tuition was fun again :D
symphony of voices tmr!
I've high expectations ;)

ARGH! Der irritierende Wanzenleger!
VJC has done
über well in our performing arts!
Let me tell you just how well.
Results for SYF 2007, VJC
Guitar ensemble: Gold
Harmonica: Gold
Strings ensemble: Gold with HONOURS
Chinese Orchestra: Gold
Dance: Gold with HONOURS
Symphonic Band: Gold with HONOURS
Yup! You don't see anything without the word 'gold' do you?
And what do we get to celebrate? A full day of lessons! Woohoo!
Man! Was f
ür ein Schulleiter haben wir!?
Oh well, but as I keep telling people, our principal is Chan Poh Meng, not Chan Khah Gek (as much as we'd like it to be)
Sigh, by this time last year, we'd probably gotten a week's worth of day offs! And this year? A miserable 1 day! And I fully because that was because Mrs Chan and the J3s pressured him like mad.
Sigh...oh well...
wish me luck for chem test later man
Ich will die Frau wieder!!!
Schlimme Man!

I so don't believe it! They (some association in charge of school sports or something) banned instruments during games! Of all atrocities!
Andreas was saying, if Mrs Chan was still our principal, she'd have encouraged us to write to the press and press for our drum! (sigh..we want Mrs Chan back!)
was gonna write some long thingie about the banning of drums, but i'm lazy!
shall leave it at that and come back to it sometime or something.

I saw Fahrenheit 911 yesterday.
An intriguing documentary film.
It shows how stupid the Iraq war is and suggests hidden motives for Bush's obsession with it.
It shows how American bombs blasts the houses of normal citizens to bits, how it took the life of a little baby. How the father of the baby laments and exclaims at the senseless loss of his son's lives.
And what was even more shocking was while all these are going on, the soldiers are exclaiming at the rushes they feel from shooting people and dropping bombs. Newspresenters reporting with awe the adrenaline rushes soldiers on the frontline feel. And it was simply disgusting how the military prey on teenagers, especially those from poor families, to recruit when they start running out of troops.
I questioned the provenence of the footages, but after some research, they seem authentic enough.
Its all just disgusting.

First things first.
I've a couple of things to comment about.
1) I've found the perfect place for one of the opening scences of 11 Years - the movie.
The playground near my granny's place is just the ideal spot! And I was convinced of it after I saw 2 boys running around and having the time of their lives.
2) When Singapore hosts events such as the Aviva championships, they need to make sure that other than being able to make a fair judge on the game, their umpires also must be able to speak properly.
They must be able to say "fifteen-thirteen" instead of "feeftin-tertin".
Okay, now I can go on to try to be philosophical.
Life overtakes your days
Everything stakes up like hay
When you finally join back
You realise how much you lack
All lives aren't as full as yours
Some are as complicated as morse
Be they near or be they far
You soon realise how very below par you are
History repeats itself
When you're not very consious of yourself
You think you've from one inccident you've become wise
But the events in the future show otherwise
It may seem rather cumbersome
Sometimes maybe even tiresome
(for lack of a better rhyming word)But if you miss even a modicum
You'll feel the effects of your slack-kingdom

Went for GIC visit today.
Ha, ironic how their company name has "Government of Singapore" in front, and "Private Limited" behind.
Again, as with the radio forum, a few things struck me.
-Traders cannot be investers.
-Those who 'smell' might not be able to 'think' and vice versa.
-Smart and intelligent are different.
-Creative
Analytical
Judgemental
Decisive
Initiative
-Effective communication is very important.
-Straight As is a given. (sigh...WORK HARD!!!!)
alright, thats about all of my main take aways.
GIC is really nice. (though I think MFA is nicer) They have a fantastic view from their office. (renders the ferris wheel redundant).
One of their HR staff looks SUPER like Mrs Chan. We mentioned it to her, and guess what?! She knows Mrs Chan!!! Apparently her husband was working with GIC before...small world eh...
Each day, you find out how much smaller the world is.
