Wah, I'm getting quite fed up with the 'arguement' going on on cosiety about days off.
From a little whining on the part on some people on the sparse day offs we're getting this year, it has blown into a stage for insults and accusations.
I'm so sick of it that I've decided to just air my golden opinions on my own blog :p
I think one of the reasons why we're so wound up over this issue is probably because we somehow subconsciously very strongly realise that there's some kind of double standard. The last day off was a half-day Thursday for our achievements in X-country and Wushu. This was given promptly after the results were announced.
But for our performing arts, whose achievements I cannot emphasize more, the day off is being delayed till most probably this Friday.
This week is a week dominated by sports. We have a couple of finals and a couple of 3rd/4th play offs. Should the off day be given this week, it would seem more like in celebration and recognition of sports more than performing arts.
Sure, he might make it clear that the day off is for the performing arts as well as sports. But in that case, we ask: Why did x-country and wushu garner a half-day off?
If we go by that calculation, success by 2 CCAs gives us half a day off.
This would in its way ENTITLE us to a full day off for the successes of our performing arts.
And perhaps another day off for the sports this week.
This, in my opinion, is what rouses us and not the fact (or unfact) that we're spoilt brats who are harping on a lost past.
Some also say that we don't deserve to be calling for days off for our sports as we've done miserably and should be ashamed of our results. Again, I'll say that the issue up for contention is our day off for the performing arts.
I personally feel that victorians are getting a little overboard in calling for days off, and that in light of recent events, i.e. the sports that haven't exactly been doing very well, we shouldn't be in the mood to go out to celebrate. The purposes of past days off were for us to flaunt our achievements to the school. We don't have much to flaunt this year. However, I also feel that it is wrong to say that we should tuck our heads between our legs and hide ourselves in school. It is wrong to say that because we haven't done well, we don't deserve a day off.
The point is again, the attitude of victorians towards days off; whether they get the meaning or not.
Okay, now for my next topic.
WHATDRAMA (drama night @ cchms) is this Friday. I'm directing the first play. It's called "In the Bakery" and is adapted from "In the Repair Shop" by Stella Kon.
We've worked hard these past week and personally I feel that what we've achieved is very good for a week's work. However, we're giving a performance here. And if we're going to do it, we want to do it right. i.e. Give a performance worthy of Gold. Currently, I'd say that we might be bronze bordering on silver standard. Not that my stellar cast ain't good, but that they could be much better. So far all the feedback I've gotten have been very positive. But that is coming from people who are used to watching (forgive me) lousy plays. Its not enough that we produce a better play, I hope to produce a fantastic play. This might be alot to ask (esp since we're working with a time frame of 2 weeks), but I'm working with a fantastic cast and getting alot of help from everywhere. I think we just might be able to pull it off ;) Fingers crossed!
you know you love me
ps: If anyone is interested to come watch, do let me know, its only $5 ;)
