Conversations these past few days have got my thinking about 'best friends'.
We had thing conversation about friends in general at the hut last year. I don't think I'll go into that right now. (if anyone wants me to you can let me know :p) I shall just talk about best friends.
Many people wonder "What is a best friend?", "Do I have a best friend?", "Am I my 'best friend's" best friend?" etc. etc.
Countless answers to the definition of a 'best friend' have been given.
They range from one liners like,
"A best friend is one who is able to see through your smiles." to long rambling descriptions like "A friend is someone who is loyal, someone you can trust and rely on. Someone who can make you laugh and comfort u when u mourn. Someone who will not suddenly grudge or envy you if you should suddenly become rich and famous. Someone who accepts and appreciates you for who you are. Someone who would never deceive you. Someone who if offered a huge sum of money do away with you or stop associating with you would bluntly refuse because they value your friendship. Someone who if they know you are poor wouldn't care but would do everything in their power to help you."
from kartik:
a best friend is someone who can tell you're being an absolute ass and not sound like one when he/she tells you so that you know that they are really being honest and caring when they tell you about it
I guess best friends are just all that and more and you'll know it when you see it. And you can't really define what a 'best friend' is or how you should treat a 'best friend' because its unique to each person.
[grr i wanted to write along intellectual post about this, but my brain ain't working now! :p so better luck next time! lol.]
Excerpt from Corrinne May's
"Everyone needs a friend to hold
when it's cold outside
and there's no place to go
Everyone needs a friend to hold."
you know you love me!
