"Where there is discord, may we bring harmony. Where there is error, may we bring truth. Where there is doubt, may we bring faith. And where there is despair, may we bring hope.""He abdicated his judgment really, and abdicated himself, in favour of her, Mrs Thatcher, and did just what he was told. That was very useful from the point of view of getting her policies through, but honestly, I think damaging to the country."
"Young Gilmore may think that and for all I know, he may, to some extent, be right. But what was the result? The result was, that the conservative party won the election in 1979 and stayed in power for 10 years. Is it supposed that, that could have happened if the Tory party had constantly been quarelling with its leader throughout that time? The answer is no."
When I am out of politics, I wil run a business. It will be called “Rent a Spine”.
She’s inclined to make up her mind, and then not listen to the other side at all.
I think these criticisms come from people who criticise criticise criticise and never have to make decisions.

As much fun as school is, all the projects and group work, presentations and meetings are really a pain and strain on one's time!
Something to remember as a lawyer: Your clients do not have your legal training and background and are not expected to know how the system works, and what it can or cannot do. As such, be patient when explaining things to them and answering their various queries no matter how duh it sounds to you.

who will keep the pap honest
inherent love for country
pride
blahblah
was reading the excerpts from "Men in White" in the STs, and they went on to talk about the importance of integrity, how the PAP invented all sorts of measures to keep all their organisations honest, and came the question, what if the PAP becomes corrupt? Who keeps them honest? Jotted down the above thoughts.
I think it's important to go back to the basic point of having a pride in one's country and a desire to serve one's country. With that basic building block, there'll hardly be the question of corruption.
The original PAP was founded by people who were proud of Singapore and wanted to rid us from British colonisation, and they worked together towards that. With that goal in mind, there wouldn't be space nor time for thoughts of personal gain to creep in.
I think the question we should be addressing is instilling that pride and desire to serve one's country. To find that same ardence and fire that our founding fathers had.
Otherwise, it would seem that politics is 'just another job'; parties 'just another organisation'. What sets this brand of people and occupation apart is, to borrow a cliche, 'serving the people', and that must be the foundation of politicians' motivation.
One thing I've learnt from my time in SIA is the importance of taking pride and ownership in one's work.
When you take pride in your work, and feel a sense of ownership, you will naturally strive to do your best, you will look into every single detail and work for perfection.
When working in a large organisation, it is important for every employee to feel that he/she belongs and has a stake.
And this brings me to my weekly blog input: My LTB takeaway for today:
1) Good leaders always have charisma.
Bad leaders exhibit certain traits that are undesirable (e.g. bossiness, bullying, etc.)
2) It is important to manage up and down. I.e. your boss and your subordinates.
To that goal, one must understand oneself and one's boss.
Which brings me back to SIA. Understanding different working and leadership styles and adapting yourself to them will help make your life alot easier.
My weekend has been a super slack one. An entire weekend played and relaxed away after being sick.
Very good for recharging and a very good break.
But that also meant that I now have a mountain of backlog.
So back to work!

Take away from LTB: Know yourself and your group. Each person's strengths and weaknesses, what and how they can contribute, how to deal with their 'shortcomings'. Be aware of your own weaknesses and take concrete measures to overcome them while maximising on your strengths.
School has been a pain.
I like what I'm doing. But I absolutely hate the mountains of readings and all the projects thrown over. Doesn't help that we need to coordinate and schedules to find time for meetings. Don't see myself doing this for the rest of my life.
What I'm typing doesn't make sense. Lets try again.
I like what I'm doing. But hate the amount of readings and projects. It's difficult to accomodate everybody and fit everything in, do a good job and meet the deadlines.
I like law, but if it just means 80% reading and 20% enjoyment, I don't see myself doing it for the next 10 years.
Feels like I haven't seen my friends for the longest time.
