A very superficial analysis.
Singapore needs to survive, yes.
Singapore is made up of immigrants. But immigrants who have grown to become Singaporean.
And now, we have a couple of generations of born and bred Singaporeans. Our focus now should then be on these 'real' Singaporeans.
Birth rates are falling, and we need population replacement. The answer is not to bring in more immigrants. People aren't having children because they don't find Singapore a conducive place to raise children. Why? Tackle these issues. They might seem unimportant in the entire pragmatic economic way of things, but if your solution is immigrants, its no wonder people don't feel any strong sense of belonging.
Citizens cannot be used as chess pieces.
